Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY)

Central scheme

Currently earns 8.2% interest per annum (Q1 FY 2024-25, compounded yearly). Minimum deposit ₹250/year; maximum ₹1.5 lakh/year. Deposit period is 15 years from account opening; the account matures after 21 years from opening (or on marriage after age 18). Partial withdrawal (up to 50%) allowed after girl turns 18. Full EEE tax benefit: deposit is deductible under Section 80C, interest earned is tax-free, and maturity proceeds are tax-free.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Account can be opened for a girl child below 10 years of age
  • Maximum two accounts per family (one per girl child)
  • Can be opened by natural or legal guardian
  • Girl child must be an Indian citizen

Required Documents

  • Girl child's birth certificate
  • Guardian's Aadhaar and PAN Card
  • Address proof (Aadhaar / utility bill / passport)
  • Photograph of guardian
  • Account opening form (available at post offices and banks)
